PURPOSE: To provide financial assistance, of up to $750, for programs and projects that bring together MTNA teachers, students and the local community, and focus on projects that engage the community in making music, appreciating music, or attending live music events. Community Engagement Grants support Pillar One of the MTNA mission: “Engage the Public,” by supporting programs/activities designed to “increase the number of all people making and teaching music.”

ELIGIBILITY:

  • MTNA-affiliated local associations or state MTAs, as well as individual teachers may apply.
  • Proposed projects must occur during the grant year (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026).
  • Only one application per affiliate or individual should be submitted.
  • Fundraising or commercial events are not eligible for this grant.
  • Final reports for any previous MTNA grants have been submitted.
  • This grant is not intended to provide operating funds.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time, May 1, 2025.

  • Benefits those outside of the MTNA state, local and collegiate communities
  • Reaches multiple demographics

  • Benefits an audience without current access to music

Proposals do not have to meet all the above criteria to be awarded a Community Engagement Grant.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

  • Implementation (30 points)—Applicant demonstrates ability to successfully design/implement the project. This might include documented planning, leadership, financial management and/or timeline.
  • Benefit/Impact (40 points)—Applicant articulates who will benefit from the project and the impact that the project will have.
